What’s Up Wednesday | May Edition

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Today I'm doing my very first Link Up. I'm joining Mix & Match Family, Pinterest Told Me To, and The Larson Lingo in What's Up Wednesday. The last Wednesday of every month we will answer a series of questions. Please join us!!

What We’re Eating This Week…

Well, to be honest, Momma did not meal plan, nor have I been to the grocery store. So far we’ve had pizza and takeout. Boo! Major Momma fail! Tonight will probably be Chicken Quesadillas and then tomorrow is grocery store night. I’m going to have to plan some crock pot meals with cheerleading starting next week.

What I’m Reminiscing About…

Our last family vacation which was in 2012. Wow!! It's been too long. We haven't taken a trip since before L&C were born. Our last family vacation was the most perfect. It was our first vacation with Skylar, Eric's little brother joined us, and it was Bronx's first trip to the beach. We had so much fun. I cannot wait until we have a chance to go back to Destin, FL again!!

What I’m Loving…

School being out!! This week I have not had to sit in a long drop off line or traffic, nor have we been rushed at all. I'm also not back tracking having to drop Skylar off at school then L&C with my mom.

What I’ve Been Up To…

Putting together a Thirty One catalog order. I found a few items I would love to have, and what’s better than getting them at a discount?!?! J I didn’t get too many orders, but a little bit never hurt!

What I’m Dreading…

Colt has his first appointment with the ENT tomorrow for his constant ear fluid. I’m dreading him possibly having to get tubes. You hear so many pros and cons, but I really pray he doesn’t have to.

What I’m Working On…

Finding more time for this little blog of mine. I write so many posts in my head, but never seem to find time to sit down and type them out. I’m hoping to make more time and effort to share/document our many family memories for years to come.

What I’m Excited About…

SUMMER!! I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited for summer and pool time as I am this year. The kiddos LOVE water and I can’t wait to get them in the pool.

What I’m Watching/Reading

Well, our favorite show Mad Men just ended… with the most terrible series finale on the planet!! Eric and I are trying to find time to watch the final season of Sons of Anarchy. We waited until it was on Netflix so we could watch the entire last season without having to wait a week in between.

I’m currently trying to find time to read Redeeming Love. Two of my co-workers and sister-in-law highly recommended it. It’s been laying on my night stand for two weeks now.

What I’m Listening To…

Opie Joe on Q 100.3, our local country station. I seriously miss him on the morning show with Krisha , but it’s nice to end my day with him… just not the same.

What I’m Wearing…

Under Armor shorts. They are my absolute favorite in the summer. Also my Chacos. I have several pairs that i've had since college. They hold up so well.

What I’m Doing This Weekend…

Hopefully laying by the pool, playing at the park with the kiddos and taking Oakley to the dog park to swim.

What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month…

All the Celebrations coming up. We have Eric’s birthday, my dad’s birthday, two baby showers, and Father’s Day. It’s going to be a month long of parties. J

What Else Is New…

Eric started a new job this week. We are very excited and can’t wait for the opportunities it holds.

BONUS QUESTION-

What’s My Favorite Thing To Grill…

We LOVE to grill!! We mostly grill steaks, but have ventured out over the years and started grilling vegetables. My favorite is to chop onions, a variety of colored peppers, and broccoli add soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce and cook in aluminum foil while the meat cooks. It’s sooo good.

Life... Currently

This post could very well be brought to you by Lysol, Tylenol, and Walgreen’s Pharmacy. The poor kiddos have been sick for an entire month. I never thought I would say I’m counting the minutes until spring.

We have some pretty sick kiddos...

On January 16th, Eric and I took both kids to the doctor with runny noses, cough, and fever. They both tested negative for the flu and were given antibiotics. We had several days of snuggles and lots of naps, but things only seemed to get better for Logan.

So on the 30th; exactly 2 weeks from our last appointment, Eric took Colton back to the doctor. Turns out the poor baby had a double ear infection and strep throat. Eric called Mom to just go ahead and bring Logan into the doctor to get tested, if he had it, she probably did too. Both were positive for strep.

Logan was given a shot of Penicillin, and Colton had to be given 3 series of Rocephin due to his ear infections. He had one on that Friday, the next morning on Saturday, and again on Monday. Then on Monday, the doctor prescribed him an oral antibiotic because his ears were not getting better.

This continued on, but Colton seemed to be getting better. As Colton got better, Logan begin getting worse again. She started having a yellow runny nose and high fever. So a week after our last appointment, Mom and I took both babies back to the doctor on February 7th. I went into the appointment thinking Logan was the worst, but Colton apparently still was.

Both Kiddos where tested for strep again, flu, and RSV. The doctor would have sworn Colt had RSV, and in her words “his throat was horrid”. Thankfully all tests came back negative. They just had virus.

The doctor decided to get Colton a breathing treatment in the office to help his wheezing. I believe I would had better luck giving our cat, Callie, a bath. Holy Cow!! He smacked, fought, kicked, screamed, and cried. Then he broke the strap off that goes around the back of the head. His hair started off straight, and it was kinky curly by the end. We were both sweating from top to bottom.

We went home with a new antibiotic in a completely different family. So far it has seemed to help. Logan is still pulling at her ears, but she has two teeth coming in right now.

As of last night, we finished our last round of antibiotics. We are completely better... knock on wood. But on Sunday, this hit...

Over the River and through the Woods... It's off to work I go.

We are continuously getting ice and snow. We have many people in our area without power. The temperatures are going to be in the negatives tonight, which is unusual for East Tennessee. We are keeping the kiddos indoors and praying they do not catch something else!

*Out with the Old, In with the New*

Happy 2015 people!!! I am absolutely excited to get this year started and see what is in store for our little family.

Since we all get to start all over with a brand spanking new book with 365 empty pages to write, why shouldn’t this blog? I’m sure you’ve noticed the new title ‘Two is Better than One’. Well, this blog is about our family, and I just did not feel the old title, ‘Chaos and Applesauce’, would suit our family for several years to come. I will whole heartily admit it does for now, definitely! I just knew it would not fit our family 10 years from now.

‘Two is Better than One’ is used quite often, but it have sentimental value to our family. Have you heard the Boys Like Girls and Taylor Swift song Two is Better than One? Well, that was actually the song that Eric and I had our first dance to at our wedding. Fast forward 3 years later and we have our two cute bundles of joy. I don’t know about you, but I would not have them any other way. Two is SOOO much better than just one!

Flash Back to 2014

As I was thinking of all the paths we crossed this previous year and talked it over with the hubby, I realized there were very few things to reflect on. However, the few were pretty major, at least in our book! We reconnected with some family members, said goodbye to a few loved ones, and gained some new family.

2014 was the first full year celebrated as a family of five. We survived! It has truly been the most blessed and fulfilled year with Colton and Logan. They completed our family.

January came and went, all too quick. I think it was the lack of sleep with two newborns.

February, Colton and Logan celebrated their first Valentine’s Day. I returned to work after a 4 month maternity leave. It was so hard to leave the babies, but refreshing to be back.

March, Skylar took her first plane trip to Chicago. She spent Spring Break there with family. She thought the plane ride was so much fun.

April, we celebrated Easter with family. It was Colton and Logan’s first! Eric and I also celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary.

May was a pretty special month. Eric was able to reconnect with his mom’s side of the family. I actually met Eric’s mom and sister for the first time in the 8 years I’ve known him.

June was by far the hardest month of all. We experienced a day I never wanted to come. We said goodbye to our first born, Bronx. He crossed the rainbow bridge on June 30th, Eric’s 32nd birthday. There isn’t a day that goes by that I do not wish I could just cuddle up with him. I miss my furry baby sooo much, it aches!

In July we welcomed our Chocolate Lab, Oakley, to our family. He helped heal our hearts from our loss, but will never fill the void we still experience without Bronx. Skylar went to spend the whole month in Chicago with family, again. She had lots of fun and many adventures.

August was pretty slow. Skylar began 2nd grade.

September, we got to travel to Murfreesboro to gain a new sister-in-law!  It was absolutely the most beautiful wedding that can only be described in a movie. It was our first trip away from the babies, but thanks to Nana and Papaw, I don’t think we were missed!

October was celebrated with the cutest bumble bee, hound dog, and Pink Lady on the planet! It was raining and snowing so Colton and Logan did not participate in trick or treating, but they still got the effect of Halloween.

November came and went. Colton and Logan celebrated their first Thanksgiving. They had the traditions completely backwards. It started out with a nap then turkey. Rookies!

December was probably our biggest month. Our sweet babies turned ONE! We celebrated with a Thing 1 and Thing 2 themed party. {That’s a post to come} Skylar celebrated her ninth birthday. I can’t believe what a young lady she is growing into. That was celebrated with an ice skating party with a couple of her best friends. Skylar went to Chicago to spend Winter Break in Chicago. The kiddos celebrated their first REAL Christmas. {Last year they were only a week old.} Also, I able to participate in Twin Talk Blog’s “A Day in the Life” series. That was lots of fun!!
